O2 Slovakia has announced to launch its commercial 5G pilot network, at four locations in the capital city.
The 5G network works in Dubravka, Bratislava neighbourhoods Petrzalka, Karlova Ves, and Ruzinov.
The operator of the company is testing 5G technology from Ericsson, Nokia, ZTE, and Huawei, using spectrum it already owns.
It wants consumers to try out the network as part of their ongoing tender to select a nationwide network equipment supplier for 5G.
The upper part of the 3.5-3.7 GHz band and a part of the 1,800 MHz band are used for the pilot networks.
Peak upload speeds have reached 90 Mbps, and downloads reach around 1,223 Mbps.
The operator offers nine models of 5G smartphones:
- Motorola edge plus
- Huawei P40 5G
- ZTE Axon 11 5G
- Huawei P40 Pro 5G
- the Motorola G5G Plus
- Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G
- Huawei Mate 20X 5G
- Xiaomi Mi10 and Xiaomi Mi10 Pro
The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro and Xiaomi Mi 10T will be available soon.
O2 noted that not all 5G devices on the market will work with its network.
The 5G pilot will be limited to a few hundred consumers to start.
Orange has nearly finished the modernisation of its radio network, to have it ready for 5G.
While O2 launched a trial operation of its pilot commercial of 5G network in selected parts of Bratislava on October 6.
The company is testing technologies from Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, and ZTE on the already allocated frequencies in the city.
Boroughs of Bratislava, namely in Karlova Ves, Dubravka, Ruzinov, and Petržalka, the SITA newswire reported.
Clients of the operator who do have a compatible device can try using the 5G network in these locations.
O2 said they are testing the technologies of all suppliers and will announce their choice for provider of nationwide 5G in the coming months, the TASR newswire wrote.
